Just like the old country song "I'm the Happiest Girl in the USA". I received the best medicine anyone could ask for....my baby came home to live again. He decided since he and his sister weren't getting along his place was back here helping his Dad take care of me.

Now for the Happy part ... Tracy went out and got me a new mode of transportation! He got me a type of wheelchair. It's called a transport chair and is similar to a wheelchair. It doesn't have the large back wheels you use to move so it needs someone to push but works well for us. This leads to the next part of the post....

A Date....

We were finally able to get out of the apt for a date! It was wonderful to be out and feel like a human again. Our date started at the LNS where I was a really good girl and only got a really cool magnifier that clips on to my Q-Snaps. With my diabetes getting worse I was having real problems seeing to stitch on both 28 and 32 count fabric, well the new toy sure takes care of the problem and now I have no problems seeing the holes in the 32 count. Tracy just had to enable me with the Mill Hill kits (and I couldn't say no). I got 2 of the new tree kits and hope to start them real soon so he will have them to hang on the tree this year.

From there we headed to the Belliago to see the Fall display. I took lots of pictures and below are just a few of the many (click on pic for a larger view)

As you enter the lobby and look behind the check-in desk you see this as part of the display.

Entrance to the conservatory. The crooked tree was designed by a British man and is a wire base wrapped with willlow branches. There are several of these and no two are alike.

The glass house is the center of the display and is full of many different types and colors of orchids. I could have spent hours in there as I love orchids.

Every year they have the Tree Man who speaks and I look forward to seeing him. This year it's the smaller of the Men but I love him either big or small

We then headed to our favorite place to end our "Date", Fremont Street where we decided we wanted to go for dinner. We arrived a little early for dinner so decided to play for a bit. Poor "Lucky Bastard" lost his title to me who is now known as "Lucky Bitch". He lost his gambling allowance while I was the big winner for a change. After a nice steak dinner we headed for home, very tired but feeling so good.

Still don't have a stitchy update to share but with my stitching mojo slowly returning I should have something to share very soon, maybe by the end of the weekend.

Stitching and Health Updates

It's been way too long since last I updated my blog and I do promise I will try to do better.

Let's start with a wonderful Get Well RAK I received from Wanda J, a member of my ILCS group.

Wanda stitched this adorable frog card for me and included the cutest kit from China. If you click on the picture you can see it better and this is something you don't want to miss. It sure made me feel better and put a BIG smile on my face.

I changed the color of the fabric called for. This color looked icy to me, more like what a skater would be on. What looks like would be a companion to this is in the JCS Ornament issue so of course I will have to stitch him on the same fabric.

This is my second attempt at this one. I had started it on a fabric I wasn't happy with and while stitching found several errors that was going to require massive frogging. I decided to restart on different fabric and it went much smoother the second time. No Frogging this time.

Now if you don't want to read about my latest medical problem that put me in the hospital you can skip the rest of this entry.

Health Update.....

Well I didn't take my own advise and waited to long to see the doctor and again ended up in the hospital for 6 days this time but thankfully not in ICU. It all started several weeks before with my feet and legs swelling until they looked like elephant feet and legs. Being the idiot I am I just thought it was from the heat or a reaction to my meds so I just tried to elevate my feet in hopes they would go down. It was no use they just stayed swollen. Next came some shortness of breath. It became very difficult to take a deep breath. Again I thought it would just go away but no such luck. This started on Monday and by late Wed night, early Thurs morning I was really having problems and Tracy insisted we call 911. The medics arrived very quickly with an ambulance right behind. The first thing the medics said was it look and sounded like CHF (Congestive Heart Failure). I questioned how could it be my heart when I had no chest pain other than the pain trying to take a deep breath. Off to the hospital again in the ambulance. They did all kinds of tests in the ER and the doctor came it and said it looked like I would be staying with them for several days and agreed with the medics, it was CHF. They feel it was caused as a complication of the diabetes and so now I'm on several heart meds, a diuretic, and a long acting insulin that I have to inject every morning. I'm still having episodes of not being able to catch my breath but if just relax and breath thru it, it doesn't last long. My blood sugar has now stabilized and is in the lower end of the normal level. All in all I'm getting stronger every day and am determined to go to the doctor at the first time of trouble.

Tracy and I finally had a "Date Night" and I will Blog with LOTS of pictures as soon as I can get them download.

Wonderful Wednesday

Wednesday didn't start out too good. I got up feeling kinda crapy and was having my own private "Pity Party" when Kelly YM'd me. I was able to vent to her and soon I was feeling much better. It's amazing what just talking to a friend weather it be in person, on the phone or thru cyberspace can do to raise your spirits but what really made my day came in the mail....

This was my weekend project and I finished it early Monday morning. If I ever stitch it again (and I like it enough to do again) I think I will change the red to a brighter one.

"Frosty Flakes" by LHN

This is my current WIP and the last of the monthly ornaments from my stash. I wasn't happy with all the colors in the model so I have changed some to suit myself. So far I'm really happy with the changes and unless you held the stitching next to the model you really can't tell the difference.

I have ordered the latest of the LHN ornaments of the month and can't wait for it to arrive. It is so cute and I think my favorite so far.

Other Stuff....

It's said you can't teach old dogs new tricks and believe me I'm proof of that LOL. While I LOVE my new notebook I have a problem with the touch pad. While I could move the cursor around and click on things I just couldn't do all I wanted to do. Tracy was sensing my frustration and as usual took care of it. He came home from the store with a wireless mouse for me and now I'm in love with it. It's not purple but very close and goes well with the color of the Toy.

In my last entry I hinted I had some exciting news I would share soon. Well here it is....I'm going to be a Granny again! We won't know until next month if it's a girl or boy but I really don't care as long as it is healthy and Manda continues to have no problems. We are thinking PINK since it would be nice for Maddie to have a Lil Sis to grow up with.

I'm sure I have bored you to tears by now so I will close and get to stitching

Short Update

This was a much better week in the hot desert. Got in LOTS of stitching time (and some nice chats with Kelly on YM). I finished stitching the last two LHN Monthly ornaments I had and the two I ordered arrived in the mail.

I totally restarted this project instead of doing all the frogging on the previous one I had started. Again I made several changes to suit myself. I used the CC's for the green branches and the girls dresses. I left off the beads, I just didn't like the way they looked and felt they really didn't add to the design. The stitching went much smoother this time and I'm very happy I restarted it.

I am now working on "Peppermint Twist" and then will stitch "Frosty Flakes" which I will probably change some of the colors since I'm not sure I like the ones used.

A Blob!

Last weekend I felt like a BIG BLOB just sitting in my stitching chair. Didn't matter what I picked up to stitch I just couldn't get into it. On Saturday (Virtual Stitching Day on ILCS) I really wanted to get some work done on Victoria Samplers "Friends in Stitches" that Mel L sent me as a Get Well RAK. All I managed to do was make a working copy of the chart, separate the threads and get them in their baggies with labels, prep the fabric and stitch part of the first band and finish the second band. It is such a special project I didn't want to really mess it up so I put it away.

By Monday I felt more like myself and decided it was time to get some of the LHN ornaments done before more are released and I get further behind with them (the next release is on their website and is the best yet).

The week turned out to be much better than the weekend and I had 2 finishes, yes I did finish 2 more ornaments (at least the stitching on them) and I couldn't be happier with them.

My New Toy

For several months, actually about a year and a half, we have talked about getting a laptop computer. Since we have a fairly new desktop I just couldn't justify the expense until now. I found this DELL INSPIRON mini on sale at a great price.

I think one of the final deciding factors was my stay in the hospital. I could have stayed in touch if I had a laptop and then when I got home I would have been able to keep up better.

So here it is (and yes it is purple LOL).....

It's very basic, no bells and whistles except for the web cam and built in WiFi but will be great for reading emails and surfing the web at my stitching chair. It is really little 10.1" wide by 8" deep but since my hands are really small it's a great fit for me.

I have to Thank my sweetie for spoiling me even more!

I have really enjoyed stitching these ornaments and look forward to getting the latest releases (I feel a trip to the LNS coming soon). Since I have more finishes I have to have new starts too. I have started the LHN ornament "Gingerbread Tree" from the JCS Ornie Preview issue. Have a good start on it but not enough for a pic yet.

The weather has cooled a little, only 5 degrees hotter than Hates now LOL. Tracy wants to go out again this week so we'll see what he comes up with this week.

Date Night

Tracy and I decided to brave the heat for our monthly Date Night and boy are we glad we did. What a fun time we had. We have wanted to try this restaurant for a long while but just hadn't made it there until now. I grew up on the North coast of California where fresh seafood was something we took for granted, who would have thought I could find a taste of home in the desert of Nevada. (Sorry the pics are a little dark but I took them as we were leaving and the sun was almost down)

Not only was the food wonderful it was a really, really fun place with great service. They used newspaper for place mats, no little whimpy dinner napkins, there was a much needed roll of paper towels, and even bibs to keep the melted butter off your shirt.

The decor was so much fun too look at and there was something different in every nook and cranny. The Shrimp boat was at our booth and the shark was hanging in the next dinning area. The whole place was lit with strings and strings of Christmas lights. We were surprised when there was a change in the music, a multi colored disco type ball started spinning and the the waitresses and waiters started dancing a conga line. So much fun to clap along with them and watch them circle the restaurant. There was also a lady doing balloon figures for the kids. These weren't your normal balloon figures, I watched for about 5 minutes as she did a mermaid for a little girl. It was truly amazing as she used different colored balloons, a red for long hair, pink for the face and body and of course green for the tail. At that point I wanted to be a little girl again so I could have a mermaid too.

What a fun place that we will be returning to again real soon! I really paid for the good time today with swollen feet and legs but Tracy made me sit all day with my feet up and they are almost back to normal tonight.

A Stitching Update and stuff

It's still 10 degrees hotter than Hades here in the desert Southwest. I can't wait for the cooler weather of Fall but don't think it's ever going to get here. Tracy and I are going to brave the heat tonight for "Date Night". There is a seafood restaurant we've never been to we want to try and maybe even a stop off at Starbucks for a Frappicino (date night is not complete without a visit to Starbucks).

With all this heat I've become a shut-in with lots of sleeping and stitching. Last week I finished two ornaments and started another.

Get Well and Thank You Gifts

I forgot to add these to my previous post but then they deserve a post of their own. I received 3 wonderful gifts in the mail.

"Friends" by Victoria Sampler

Mel L sent me this wonderful chart and the threads to stitch it are on their way to me. With my limited time on the computer I had not even seen it's release and when I went to the LNS for the fabric they hadn't gotten it yet. I was so excited to receive such a wonder get well gift it really did make me feel like a million dollars, not just the beautiful chart but to know that so many were thinking of me while I was ill.

As a thank you gift RaeAnn sent me this adorable chart. It has everything needed to stitch the design including threads and fabric. I had lent her a chart and this was included when she returned it.

From Graceann I got the cutest froggie chart. It doesn't have a picture of the finished project so you will have to wait a couple of weeks to see it.

Thank you so much ladies for remembering me, you have really touched my heart.

Finally a Update

I can't believe it's been over a month since last I posted to my blog. With great improvements to my health issues I should get back to regular postings (or I hope so). My blood glucose leveling off and the back issues much improved I'm almost back to normal. I'm still sleeping alot but I think that is because the heat just wipes me out....is it almost Winter?

WIP's....

I am so excited about AQC. Pages 1-5 are now done as well as part of page 6. Not much more to go on it before the finish. I had set a couple of goals that were not met so I just decided it will be done when it's done. You can click on the picture to see more detail.

During our Virtual Stitch In on Sat July 3 I not only worked on AQC but pulled Winter Wingding out of the WIP basket. I did change things up a little and stitched the snowflake with Petite Treasures instead of regular floss. With any luck this will be done sometime this winter but I'm not holding my breath. I did work on a couple of other pieces but didn't scan them yet and since one is a gift I can't share it yet.

I love the LHN monthly ornaments and have all the ones released so far but am so far behind on stitching them. I did do more on FaLaLa and then discovered a BIG goof that needs frogging. I'm not sure if I frog it or just start over.

Finish....

I did finish the stitching on Needle and Thread by LHN but have not attached it to the mattress for a finish. This was really fun to stitch even when the frogs attacked.

Good Ol Summertime....

As you can see Maddie likes the summer much more than her Granny. She is a real water baby and loves getting wet. Her favorite is getting in the pool and playing with her Dad and Brothers.

I hear my pillow calling so I better head off for some sleep.

Goodby May, I won't miss you

I am so happy May is finally over with all my illness. Between a week of getting sicker, another 5 days in the hospital and a week and a half at home getting stronger most of the month was wasted or I don't really remember it.

Wednesday was my follow up appointment with the doctor who was recommended by the hospital and I really do like him. He is patient and lisiened to all my problems not just the ones that put me in the hospital. He was very happy with my blood sugar, except for a couple of bumps in the road it has leveled off into the normal limits with the meds. Also he told me to NEVER take Ibuprofen, Aspirin or anything like that for pain. He did give me some low level pain killers and they are like a gift from the gods. Finally I have got up the last two mornings with no back pain and feeling really good for a change. I will be going for x-rays of my back to see if there is a problem other than just old age hehehe.

Stitching......

When I got home from the hospital I really wanted to get back into doing some stitching BUT my arms and hands were really, really sore from all the blood tests and the IV's which made it really difficult to hold my Q-Snaps and I was still having some vision problems from the diabetes. Soooo this is what I worked on for a couple of days between naps.

"Wild Thing - Frog" kit by Mill Hill

I thought working on the 14 count aida would be easier to see and since I'm doing it in hand easier to hold. I still don't like working on aida but since I love this frog and I didn't have a linen in a color that would work I'll bite the bullet and finish it on the aida.

As soon as I started feeling a little stronger and my vision cleared up I went back to my rotation and spent some time on.....

I was able to finish the wording and then the bed. It was then that I found I had miscounted on the moon so had to frog part of it. I really want this finished and will probably work on it tomorrow when we have our virtual stitch in on my ILCS group.

"AQC" - by ByGone Stitches

I'm finally getting close to a finish on this. Pages 1, 2, 4, & 5 are finished and parts of 3 & 6 are done too. I really wanted to have this finished by now but losing almost 3 weeks of stitching in May really put me behind. My new goal for a finish is the 4th of July.

We had a Summer ornament exchange in my ILCS group and this is the orni I stitched for Lyn. Since it arrived at it's new home I can share it with you. It was a really fun stitch and I just may have to do it again for myself.

Home from Hospital

I want to Thank everyone for their well wishes and prayers while I was in the hospital. A VERY special thanks to some very special ladies who sent me the flowers, THANK YOU Shelley, Kelly, Evalina, Nancy R, Pam in IL, Pat in NM, Carolyn in NC, Debra and Marion. They really brightened my return home.

Without going into all the graphic details this is what happened to me and let it be a lesson to everyone not to wait to go to the doctor when something is not right with your health.

On Tues I started to feel a little dizzy and weak but I just ignored it. Wed it was a little worse but again I thought it would pass. On Thurs (this is the yuky part of the story)I started to have bloody diriaha and couldn't walk from the living room to the bedroom without holding on to something, later that night I got so dizzy I almost fell on my way to bed. Friday was pretty much the same. Saturday I was even weaker but the diriahria had almost stopped. Sunday was D-day for me. I was so weak I could not walk with Tracy holding me. By evening I was having trouble breathing and that scared me enough to call for a ambulance.

At the hospital ER they did all the blood work and poked and jabbed at me and when the results came back the Doctor told Tracy I was in critical condition as I had lost 2/3 of my blood volume and would be admitted to the ICU for further tests to find the source of the bleed and to received a blood transfusion.

Over the next 3 days I was scoped from every opening in my body except my ears, had to drink some really nasty stuff to have x-rays done. I received 6 units of blood. I spent 4 days and nights in ICU then my last night I got to go to a regular room where I was finally allowed out of bed and more than 3 steps away from the bedside. By Friday morning I was well enough to come home.

On top of the GI Bleed (if that wasn't enough) my diabetes went way out of control so now I have to check my blood sugar 3 times a day and have insulin to take along with oral medication when it gets too high.

I'm still a little weak but getting stronger each day and finally feel like stitching again. I'm also being very good about changing my diet and lifestyle. I will start doing more exercise and get my body in better shape and hopefully put back on a little of the weight I lost.

Now you know the whole story I hope you learn from my ordeal and go to the doctor at the first sign something is wrong. If I had I would have spared Tracy a lot of worry.

A Finish, A WIP, A Start

Stitching was off and on last week. Some days I got a lot done and others not a stitch....a very strange week for me.

A Finish....

On Wednesday Nancy R and I got together at our LNS for a day of stitching, shopping and chatting. I was a VERY good girl and came home with only 2 new charts...."A Quaker Halloween Sampler" and the latest LHN Ornament of the month. I took "Behave" with me to stitch on and managed to get all but the backstitching done. I finished it up on Friday and now I need to find the perfect frame for it and get it off in the mail to my DD.

I also finished stitching a ornament for a Summer exchange and am in the process of putting it together. Can't share the picture until it arrives at it's new home.

A WIP....

"AQC"

I trying real hard to get back into my "rotation" so I can get this finished before the end of June. Page 4 only has a few more stitches to be finished then on to finish page 3, 5 and 6. I will not start on Quaker Halloween until this is done, or at least that's what I keep telling myself.

Another Start....

"Needle and Thread" by Little House Needleworks

This project has been calling to me to start for a while now and since I also have the cute little mattress with it's pillow for the finish I decided to go ahead with it. It's going really well and should be finished by the end of next week.

Friday was our usual date night. Since Tracy had his regular check up with the heart doctor it was the perfect time for our date. After a earl dinner we headed for our favorite hang out, Fremont St. Tracy now has a new nick name (excuse the language) but now I call him "Lucky Bastard". He wanted to play the slots and of course I couldn't say No. It didn't matter what machine I picked to play he sat down next to me.....I lost and he won! He would give me the machine he was playing (and won on) and what happens.....I lose. Again he came home with more money in his pocket than he left home with....The Lucky Bastard (I'm lucky too, I have him).

On Saturday I met with Kathy from OC of our ILCS group for lunch. This was the second time we have gotten together (she was here last Fall) and it was like we had just seen each other last week. We had a delightful lunch and a great time chatting.

I'm still getting my stash organized (a never ending task) and have made some progress. Maybe by the end of the year I'll have it all done hehehe.

Another RAK

I received this wonderful RAK from Ruth Beickert. She must know my love of frogs and the color purple and this fits me to a "T". Thank you so much Ruth, I am so happy you thought of me and I will really enjoy stitching my new stash.

Not much stitching progress to report since DH learned the sharing is caring lesson so well but what he didn't learn is you don't share illness. He came down with a cold the first of last week and just had to share it. I had such a stuffed up head and my vision was really screwed up so I spent most of the weekend in bed trying to sleep it off. I'm slowly feeling better and was able to stitch more yesterday. Hope to have a finish by the end of the week and a progress pic on a new project. I did manage to get the stitching done for a exchange on my ILCS group, it just needs some embellishments but won't share that until it gets to it's new home.

Friday Update

Thought I'd do a short update before the weekend.

Yesterday we spent time moving things around in the living room, not a easy task when the room is very very small. Of course I had to clean off the computer desk before it could be moved and what a job that was. I love the new arrangement and it is going to work really well for stitching. I still have tons of stash to organize and get put away but have all weekend to do that before a busy week next week.

I did get some more done on "Behave".....

The lady now has her hat with roses on it. I should be able to get her face (?) done this weekend and maybe ready for a frame this week. There is a major booboo in the ribbon but I will get that fixed when I do the backstitching.

I have made some good progress on "Behave". I don't think it will be all stitched and framed in time to get it to Manda by Mother's Day but she is use to me being late LOL. Doubt there will be much stitching for the next couple of days since the reorgazing starts tonight.

Happy Birthday Maddie

I can't believe it's been a year since I was sitting on pins and needles waiting for the birth of my only grand daughter. Maddie was a year old on the 13th and now has 9 teeth, is taking 6or 7 steps at a time and using her sippy cup instead of the bottle. How fast they grow. I don't have pictures from the Birthday party yet (DD has to get a new modem for the internet) but will share them as soon as I get them. This picture is from Easter and she looks a bit confused by that round thing her mama calls a plactic egg, what good is it if you can't eat it.

New Start....

"Women who behave...." by Sue Hillis

This will be Manda's Mother's Day present. While she was a good girl who never gave us a bit of trouble she really did behave LOL. As her high school principal said to me "She marched to a different drummer", I told him she marched to a Different band. For example she decided she wanted to go to the Prom but didn't want to be tied down to a date, so she and 3 of her friends all went together which wasn't too strange until I got a peek under her beautiful long dress and instead of the shoes I got her to match the dress she had on combat boots LOL. This design fits her to a "T".

This is really a bad time of the year for me. I get very sad and somewhat depressed so I may go MIA for a while. To keep my mind busy I'm going to stitch, reorganize my stash and move the living room around. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine just a little quiet for a while.

Finish....

I finally finished "Easter House". It took a little longer than I thought it would but was well worth the time it took. I wish you could see the sparkle in the beads and how the flowers make it look 3 dimensional.

I know, I know Easter has passed but I have a couple of more Easter projects I want to get done before I get back to my rotation.

Scissor Collection....

In my ILCS Yahoo group the QOTD was about scissors. I do have a small collection and always looking to add to it. I have two more pair that are not in the picture. A froggy pair that I never use (they are the blunt kids type) but sure enjoy looking at them. Also have the Fiskers that Shelley sent me with the scissor slide. I use the multi-colored storks the most and the gold storks are used only for Hardanger. You can also see some of the fobs I have made to go on the scissors so I don't lose them.

Blogging....

I can't believe it but this is my 400th Blog entry! Boy am I a blabber mouth. I started Blogging for myself to keep track of my WIP's and Finishes. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect so many followers and wonderful comment. Thank You so much for reading and all the comments.

Happy Easter

Hope you had or are having a very Happy Easter. DH felt sorry for me and cooked our Easter dinner and he did a wonderful job. My back is still giving me problems after my fall from grace on Thursday and I think he was afraid I would drop the ham trying to either put it in or get it out of the oven. Now I am so full I'm going to just sit in my chair with my massage cushion and heating pad and stitch the evening away.

Colored Easter Eggs

Ever since we have been married Tracy has to color eggs. Of course when the kids were little it was a family project but now that they are grown and out of the house he still has to have his dyed eggs each year.

Seasonal Shelf

It is really not finished yet. I have two more ornaments to put together to hang with the LK Stamp. You may notice on the right is my Easter Frog.

Holiday Tree

This is the first year for the tree and I still have to stitch some ornaments for it. If you click on the picture you can see the cloth egg I made, the Spring Biscornu and of course Mrs Potato Head in her bunny gear.

Easter House

I have been working on this for a couple of days now. Tried to get it done for Easter but no such luck and now the frogs have attacked it. I found the doorway on the right side is one square off and will have to come out and be restitched. I have a little more done since I took the picture and it should be finished tomorrow. This will go on top of the Holiday Tree or maybe on the Seasonal shelf, not sure yet.

Time to get back to stitching so I can get the House done then back to the rotation.

Two Wonderful Days

Thursday 4-1

Nancy R and I had plans to meet at the LNS for a day of stitching. The forecast for the day was for rain but as I left the apt the sun was shinning and there was no wind or clouds in the sky...perfect right? The bus arrived on time, the light changed to walk as soon as I got to the corner, all was right with the world until I got almost to the LNS and the Klutz in me sprang to life. As I was stepping up on the sidewalk my legs gave out and down I went, flat on my back, hitting my head on the curb stop. I was so embarrassed when a very nice man came running over to see if I needed a ambulance. Of course I said No Thanks (didn't want to spend my stitching time in the ER). My legs were still real weak and I guess I was kinda dazed so he literly picked me up and I made it to the LNS. There my own private former EMT, Nancy, checked me over after I told her no way I needed the medics. She got me some ice for the Goose Egg on my head and the day went better from there. We stitched, shopped, stitched, went to lunch and then back to the LNS to stitch some more. I had taken a couple of projects with me but decided to work on the "Easter House" since it's on perforated paper and with the slight headache I had it was much easier to do than the linen I had with me. We stitched for about 5 hours total and both got a lot done. I really enjoy these days out we get to have and can't wait until we do it again.

Friday 4-2

Wanda J from my ILCS group and her DH John were on vacation in St George UT and were thinking of coming to LV to see the lights and sights but were really sure if they would make it before having to head back home to Canada. Well she called me Thurs evening to let me know there would be here late in the morning on Friday. I can't tell you how excited I was that I was finally going to meet her after all these years of talking on the group.

We got to their hotel with time to spare and was able to greet them when they arrived. While waiting we sat down at a penny slot and won $28 in less than 5 minutes (Tracy gave me the winnings to spend at the LNS). After Wanda and John left their luggage with the Valet we headed to lunch and the LNS. We had a nice lunch at the Deli close to the LNS and talked and talked and talked. Then off we went for some stash shopping. Wanda got several things she had been looking for and I got a couple of things too. We then headed back to the hotel so they could check in. It was such a wonderful visit and felt like we were old friends. As you can tell from the picture below we never shut up, even while the guys were taking our picture. Thank You Wanda and John for a great time.

Grandkids......

I have shared so many pictures of Madding I thought the grandboys deserved equal space. This is the oldest of the two boys. Jedi is 8 soon to be 9. He is the BIG brother. Manda finally got a good pic of him because he was playing a video game and didn't know she had the camera out.

I've rambled enough for tonight. Will have another update tomorrow or Monday with what I did for our ILCS Viritual Stitch In. Hope you have a very Happy Easter but remember the proper way to eat your Chocolate Easter Bunny is ears first.

Awards, Stitching and Spring Weather

Weather....

We are having typical Spring weather. Warm one day, cool the next with lots of wind. Today and tomorrow we are under a High Wind Watch or Warning but today the temp was up to 82 degrees with the winds currently blowing at 32 mph. By Thursday the temp is going to drop 32 degrees and snow is predicted for the mountains. Not time to put away the winter clothes yet I guess.

Awards....

I received both these awards from several bloggers and want to say THANK YOU for reading my blog. I'm not going to pass them on since everyone who takes the time to keep us updated on their stitching and life deserve the award and it would be impossible to pick just a few. Since most of you know all there is to know about me (I'm such a blabber mouth LOL) I will try to come up with 10 things you may not know.

1. I'm very shy around people I don't know

2. I have live in only 3 states, Calif., Arkansas and Nevada

3. I have never been East of Memphis TN

4. I'm a BIG Elvis fan

5. If my eyes are open you'll probable find me stitching

6. I was a docent at the Little Rock Zoo where I did tours, taught classes for children, took part in the Birds of Prey program and worked with the Great Apes.

7. I grew up on the coast of Calif and still miss the ocean after all these years of being away.

8. I hate wind (makes me grumpy) but love fog (which we never get here in So Nevada)

9.I hate to go to the doctor

10. I no longer drive but take the bus wherever I need to go

New WIP....

With the finish of "Home" I needed a new project to add to the rotation. I guess I could have added one of my many WIP's but to keep my title of "Queen of the Serial Starters" I chose to start "Winter Wingding" by Blue Ribbon Designs.

Sorry about the quality of the picture. The blues just wouldn't come out as hard as I tried. This is the squares and border done. In the close up below the color is closer and you can see some of the squares with the alphabet done.

I have finished the alphabet now and will have the numbers done before the night is over and my pillow calls my name. I'm making a few changes to the threads called for but will go into that when I have more to show.

Last week I finished a couple of the Easter designs by Lizzie Kate into No Sew Cube and since the Happy Easter one reached it's new home safely I can share them with you.

ILCS St Paddy Day Exchange

A adorable St Patrick's Day card she made. "Frog Wisdom" book loaded with some great charts I can't wait to stitch. It will be going to the framers next week when we have our monthly date night. Not sure what kind of frame I want but am sure the framers will have some good ideas since the owner is a stitcher and they do the framing for all the models at the LNS.

Almost time for our St Paddy's dinner of Corned Beef, boiled potatoes, carrots and cabbage. Next to the Christmas Turkey this is my favorite holiday meal of the year.

Weekend Update

All those little Easter finishes really worked at getting me in the mood to get back to my 3 WIP's.

Home is a little over half done now. I think I'll probably continue to work on it until finished so I can take it to the framer when I go to the LNS next week.

After finishing page 2 of "AQC" I decided to go back to the left side and get the bottom done before moving on to page 3. Page 4 is a little over half done and most of the motifs left run on to page 5. I have become totally hooked on Quaker designs and think I'll have to get the Quaker Halloween to do soon.

This is the last of the Easter stitching for now. It was so much fun to do and I had a great time going through all my threads, picking colors for it. I plan on a really fun finish but won't be able to share that until it arrives at it's new home.

Nothing else new here. You can tell Spring is coming since we are getting sunny skies with lots of wind. Since I lost so much weight Tracy said he was going to have to put bricks in my pockets so I don't get blown away.

Some Little Finishes

I have been quiet but very busy stitching. My WIP's were starting to stress me out so figured I needed some quick finishes LOL. This is what I've been working on for the past several days....

These are from the LK "Spring Crazy" chart. Each design is really small and will be finished in different ways. The "Bunny" and "Chick" will be done as eggs to hang on my April Seasonal Shelf. The "Egg" and "Carrot" will just get a backing and will hang on my Monthly Tree. The "Butterfly" will be a Knob Knocker and sent out as a RAK. The "Lilly" is going to be a No Sew Cube. I'm now stitching 3 of the designs together for another No Sew Cube but no picture of that until it gets to someone as a gift. I think as much fun as the stitching was going through my fabric and threads to pick colors for each one was even more fun. I have used lots of different overdyed threads none of which were called for on the chart.

Now for a smile here is a new picture of my sweet DGD Maddie.....

She finally is getting some hair LOL and just look at all those teeth.

Goodbye Feb - Hello March

Goodbye February.....

February was a great month for sports fans (and I am one) starting with the Superbowl and ending with the Olympics with NASCAR starting in between. You know I had my butt parked in front of the TV for all the excitement. I will say our neighbors to the North did a fantastic job with the Olympics and should be very proud.

Hello March....

March Seasonal Shelf

Growing up in rural N Calif March was one of our favorite months. It meant Spring was just around the corner and it was time to bring out the kites. Also the grass was turning green and we could get some cardboard boxes and make slides on the hills. I wonder if kids still do these things.

A Date....

Tracy and I had our usual "Date" last Thursday and we had a great time. Went to the LNS, the Conservatory at the Belliago, saw the NASCAR car hauler parade and out to a yummy dinner at Outback. We also got lucky at the slots and came home with some extra pennies in our pockets. We were both worn out by the time we got home and slept in really late on Friday.

I really didn't get as much stitching as usual done in February but should get back on track in March. I now have pages 1 & 2 finished on AQC and am working on getting pages 4&5 done before moving on to pages 3&6. I'll have a updated picture later this week as I get another page finished.

End of Week Update

It's really hard to believe that February is almost over and Spring is just around the corner. Guess it true, the older you get the faster time goes by.

I've been glued to the TV watching every Olympic event televised. Even with all the problems they have had starting with the opening and the weather I think Canada has done a excellent job. I really would love to visit Victoria someday and see in person what I see on TV.

Now on to the stitching update.

The last of my orders for my Birthday finally arrived. With the GC's I received from Deborah M and Kathy K (with added $'s from Tracy) I got "Twelve Days" by Victoria Sampler along with the fabric and Thread Pack. It all came in a nice mesh bag. I will be doing the ornaments this year and maybe the bell pull later. Can't wait to get started on it.
WIP's......

I still don't have a picture of the Mystery WIP to share with you. Being that it's stitched 1 over 1 on 32 count it is very slow going. I'm being very careful stitching this since frogging would be almost impossible. I may need a seeing eye dog before this is finished.

Finally Page 2 is finished. I think I'm going to go back to the left side and finish up with pages 4 & 5 before doing pages 3 & 6. Tracy is really happy with the progress I'm making and loves it so far.

When my eyes get tired out comes "House" for some easy stitching. I just love this one and can't wait to do more of the Little House Needleworks designs.

BINGO Prize and a RAK

Yesterday was a good mail day again. I not only received my prize for winning BINGO in my ILCS group but I also received a RAK from my wish list.

The BINGO prize is a really cute green wooden box with the supplies needed to stitch the frog insert. This will be really fun to do and will be a great addition to my desk to hold little stitchy things.

This is the RAK I received from Carolyn A of my ILCS group. She was on my wish list and I was very surprised to receive her. I'll be getting the perforated paper to stitch her on my next trip to the LNS and can't wait to see what she will look like finished with the little froggie at the top of her broom.

I'll have a stitching update later this evening or tomorrow. Didn't get much done yesterday but making up for it today while watching NASCAR and the Olympics.

Mid Week Update

It's been a good week of stitching. We had a couple of days of rain while the East was dealing with the snow. I'm one of those rare people who love the rain and always manage to get lots done during the rain.

"AQC"

I'm still working on Page 2 but to the point where the motifs go over to the adjoining pages. Someone asked how many pages there are in the pattern. There are 6 pages but 3 of those are only half a page. I really wanted to have this done by June but not sure I'll make that deadline.

"Home of a Needleworker"

I really enjoy stitching this design, it's a nice break for the eyes from "AQC". I want to do the next line of words and thread spool then I'll move over to the left and do the rest of the top border and the house.

I do have another start but not enough done on it to share yet. It's being done 1 over 1 on 32 count linen. It really gives my old eyes a workout so can't do much on it at a time.

February Seasonal Shelf

I haven't shared the seasonal shelf for a while so thought you might like to see it for February. I just love my Valentine Froggies so had to use them on the shelf this year.

Today I'm going to try to finish one of the bigger motifs on page 2 of AQC while watching the Super Bowl and all the pregame hype. We are having a Super Bowl party for two, just Tracy and I and he will be fixing all the goodies and snacks for the game.

Hope all that were hit by the storms in the East and West are doing OK and will have better weather this week. We got hit by the same rain that CA got and it sure will help with the drought we have had for the last 5+ years.

Stitching Update

This is has been a slow week for stitching. with a new start and a little progress on a WIP so this will be a short update.

New Start....

"Home of a Needleworker (too)" by Little House Needleworks

After my trip to the LNS on Monday where I got the threads for this (and a couple of other projects) I just had to start it. I did a floss toss on a couple of pieces of fabric and this was the winner. It's a 28 count Bone Jobelan being stitched with the Crescent Colours called for on the chart. It was a nice change to be working on a larger count, much easier on the eyes.

WIP....

"A Quaker Christmas" 2-4

Last night I went back to working on "AQC". Still on page 2 and will be for a while. There are a couple of small motifs yet to do but most of the remainder of this page are larger motifs that run over into the joining pages. I'll probably continue on with this until the first of next week when I'll go back to Needleworker or maybe start another of my new charts (maybe a small one I can finish quickly).

An Ending to the Birthday Celebrations

Today was the end of my Birthday celebrating (I think). I still have one more order coming that I purchased with my Gift Certificates but the order from 123 Stitch did arrive and I'll share that a little later in this post.

She sent me a really cute card and in the package were these really pretty threads, some cute heart buttons and the best gift a bracelet she made with a really cute frog charm (you may have to biggify the pic to see the bracelet). Today Nancy R and I meet to spend the b-day cash that Tracy gave me for my birthday. We shopped, shopped and shopped some more hehehe. All that shopping made us both hungry so off we went for lunch. Before heading home we went to Michael's where I picked up a few things for my February shelf and tree.

This is what I got at the LNS today along with lots of GAST and Crescent Colors to stitch Home of A Needleworker, Flying Monkeys and another Little House pattern in my stash.

And my dear, sweet, loveable DH Tracy spoiled me even more with this.....

We had a shortened Date Night on Friday because I was having problems with my hips and knees earlier in the day. So we decided to just go to dinner, play some pennies in the slots and do some people watching. As we were heading home I spotted this metal lunch box and just fell in love with it. In my mind I could see it filled with stitching stash. There was no price on it so Tracy went to look for the clerk and the next thing I knew it was in a bag in my hot little hands.

This is a birthday year I will never forget thanks to Tracy and all my wonderful stitching friends.

Don't you just love it when your B-day continues on and on.....I sure do. I received two more packages in today's mail. More really fun stitching to do.

The chart is the cutest Farmer Frog .... maybe he'll teach my other frogs to plow, plant and hoe and stay away from my stitching. She also sent on of the dish cloths she makes and Tracy will put it to good use I'm sure (I cook, he does the dishes)

A little early for Valentines Day but he said he couldn't pass it up. What a sweetie! Along with Frogs I also collect Coffee Mugs so this really fills the bill.

A Visit from the Frogs

You would think with my internet being down for 2 days I would get a lot of stitching done....Oh no not this time. The frogs decided it was time to come out and attack my stitching.

AQC 1-26

I was doing the motif where page 1, 2, 4 and 5 all come together and it shouldn't have taken long to do but the frogs didn't like that section and I spent more time froggin' than stitching. I finally managed to get it finished and finally everything matched up correctly. Now on to finishing page 2.

Mill Hill Wild Life - Frog

To make the frogs happy while I was so frustrated with ACQ I decided to start this kit I got for my birthday. Things started out well and I quickly got the right side stitched. Got the left side almost done and found a BIG goof in my counting.....so more froggn' and restitching. It felt really strange to stitch on Aida again but was a nice break from the 36 count linen.

The froggies are now back in the bathroom with a new supply of party food so maybe they will leave me alone for a while.

The birthday celebration continues.......I did some online shopping with my Gift Certificates and had a great time. In the next few days I will be receiving some really fun things and will share what S.E.X. I got when it arrives. Friday Tracy is taking me to the Strip to see (and take pictures) of the Chinese New Year display at the Belliago, to dinner and then who knows what. I'm really looking forward to another Date Night.

Time now to get back to trying to catching up on my emails and get a little more done on AQC before Pansy Sampler SAL tomorrow.

A Stitchy Update

It's raining, It's pouring, The old man is snoring. Remember that little ditty from your childhood? Well it's raining here and yes even my Ol Man is snoring LOL. I was so surprised when I woke up this morning to the pitter patter of rain drops. We have rain in the forecast for all week so it should be a great week for staying in and stitching.

WIP's.....

"A Quaker Christmas" is coming along nicely. I am working on the area where the pages overlap and should soon be finished with page 1 where it meets pages 2, 4 & 5. Since I'm using a overdyed thread I wanted to do the motifs that are on more than one page at one time so the flow of the color wouldn't be interrupted. Sorry for the colors in the picture not being true but it was night time when I took the pic so the light wasn't the best.

In my Hardanger class we are doing a SAL of Victoria Sampler's "Pansy Sampler". Most of us had set it aside over the holidays and decided to get back to work on it on Thursdays. I did have a bit of a problem finding mine as it had fallen behind my WIP basket. I found it on Friday and finished the Hardanger in Band 11. This week, on Thursday, I'll do the hearts and eyelets then on to the cutting.

A Quaker Christmas Update

This is just a short update.....

Finally I have page 1 98% finished and part of page 4. I'm now on the right edge of page 1 where the design runs into page 2.
I'll probably spend the weekend on this trying to get page 1 completely finished then will work on the "Christmas Biscornu" or maybe some little hearts for my seasonal tree.

Said this would be a short update so think it's time to head for the pillow so I'll be bright eyed for stitching tomorrow while watch the football playoffs.

Virtual Stitch In and Gift for Maddie

On Saturday Terri from my ILCS Yahoo group hosted a virtual stitch in. The idea was to start stitching at 12pm your time and stitch til 6pm. I worked on, this should be no surprise, "A Quaker Christmas". I got most of one of the large motifs from page 1 done as you can see in this picture.

I have done more since the stitch in and finished the motif I started on Saturday as well as a couple of smaller ones.

I am now on the last of the large motifs on page 1, the ones on the edges run into the next pages and so will do a little jumping around on pages so I can finish each motif. I'm doing this so the flow of the color of thread continues with each motif, does that make any sense.

Gift for Maddie....

In the mail today I received this beautiful handmade card and adorable socks for Maddie from Shelley. Thank You so much Shelley for thinking of me and my little sweetie. I know she will be happy to get them to keep her little feet warm this winter.

Hello 2010

What a exciting couple we are or maybe we are just getting to old to party. We celebrated the New Year with a cup of Hot Chocolate watching the fireworks from the strip on TV. I think Tracy was asleep by 12:30 and I stayed up a little longer stitching and watching a movie on DVD. At least we were comfy and warm with no hang over this morning.

I'm still stitching on AQC. Got another of the large motifs on page 1 done this evening. I'll probably continue to work on it until I have Page 1 (and the parts on the a joining pages) done. At this rate I should have that done by the middle or end of the week.

Goodbye 2009....

I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. They say as you get older time goes by faster and I sure agree with that. It has been a very good year for us and I hope 2010 is a good year for everyone.

For my last post of 2009 I thought I would leave you with some pictures (lots of pictures) of my favorite sight in Las Vegas during the Holiday Season....what else but the conservatory at the Belliago.....

These first pictures are of the display under construction. The complete display is done in about 24 hours. That means they take down the previous display and construct the new one...what a amazing job they do is such a short period of time. Now on to what it turned out like.....

WIP Update....

"A Quaker Christmas"

I have become totally obsessed with this project! This is all I have worked on since the 24th. I may go blind working on the 36 count fabric before I'm done but I just LOVE it.

A Wonderful Christmas

Santa must need new glasses since he found my name on the "Nice" list. I thought the new camera, Ott Light and then the new xs stash was enough but Tracy didn't agree. My own special Santa just had to continue to spoil me with feel good things under the tree. As you know, I complain enough about it, that I have problems with my lower back. To help with this problem I found a Massage Cushion for my stitching/computer chair and boy does it help. I also have problems with my feet as a result from the diabetes so he got me a Home Spa. Like the massager it works wonders and I wish I had gotten one years ago. As if that wasn't enough he also got me some new clothes since I really didn't have anything that fit with my recent weight loss. I'm not sure what I did to deserve all this but I will be doubly nice to my Special Santa this year for sure.

To celebrate Christmas this year we continue with our new tradition of going out on Christmas Day. We started at the Christmas display at the Belliago. I couldn't believe how packed it was with tourist. I wanted to get some pictures to share with you but I forgot to check the battery in the camera and it was dead as a door nail so pictures will have to wait until we can get back there this week when the crowds should be smaller. We then headed downtown to Fremont St where the crowds were much smaller and it was easier to get around. We had a very YUMMMY dinner at our favorite buffet, we both ate too much but really enjoyed not having to cook or clean up. We then decided to put a few pennies in the slots and Santa was still with us since we both won enough to pay for our evening and come home with more than we left with. As always we ended our evening at Starbucks for a Cappichino and some people watching. While we really miss being with family at this time of year the day did make it a little easier. We are planning a very quiet New Years at home. The crowds here are just to crazy to be out in so will stay in and watch the festivies on TV.

I did start on my new project on Christmas eve and here is what I have gotten done so far....

"A Quaker Christmas"

This is about 1/4 of page 1. There are 6 pages to the chart so I hope to get at least 1 page done each month and should be finished by June or July, in plenty of time to have it framed on on the wall by next Christmas. I am doing this in Tracy's favorite colors and it will have his initials on it so guess it's sort of a gift for him.

Hope everyone had as wonderful Christmas as we did and look forward to a very Happy New Year with lots of stitching finishes.

Santa Came Early

How many times have I said I have the most wonderful DH in the world and I thank my lucky stars he came into my life. Well he outdid himself today with a wonderful surprise. When he got home from work he woke me up and said to get dressed we were going out to breakfast at the new IHop just down the street. I never argue about being taken to breakfast and think I broke a world record for getting ready. While waiting for our order he asked what time the next bus would come, he had another surprise for me. I had to ask which bus and he said the one to the LNS "Stitchers Paradise". WHAT! He wants to go to the LNS.....I must back up here a bit to explain why the trip.....
Last week several ladies in my Christmas Stitching group on Yahoo were talking about stitching "A Quaker Christmas" in 2010 and I became curious and looked up the chart, I found it to be one I would love to do. Then the next day while Nancy and I were at the LNS for our day of stitching I saw the stitched model and one of the ladies was doing it. That was it...I had to have it. I was being a good girl that day and not spending money but when I got home I called and sure enough they had the chart in stock and would hold it for me until I could get back in. I showed it to Tracy and he thought it was pretty and I should do it. Now back to today.....He said we were going to go get the chart I had on hold.

and then came the rest of the surprise....He said Merry Christmas now get the rest of the stuff you need to stitch it!

This is what I got....36 count Lambswool Linen and Crescent Colors threads. The chart calls for 28 or 32 count fabric but it is so big I decided I wanted it a little smaller but it still will be large, 18" wide and 12" high. While I'm not good at doing BAP's I think I'll be OK with this since I can look at each motif as a small finish and I'm sure that will keep me going. I did start on it as soon as we got home and even on the 36 count fabric it is going fairly fast and I should have a nice progress report on it this weekend.

And for finishing.....

Many of you may remember when I stitched the "12 Days" by The Cat's Whiskers earlier this year (think I finished them in June). They have been sitting in their bag waiting to be finished. I had the backing material but was missing the ribbon for the hanger and bow. On my last visit to JoAnn's I found just what I wanted to finish them. All 12 are now put together, 6 are on the tree and 6 are waiting for the hand stitching to close the opening for turning and stuffing (I'm going to finish that tomorrow) and all 12 will be on the tree before Christmas Day.

We are planning a fun Christmas Day again this year since it's just the two of us and no family here to be with. We will go see the decorations at the Belliago (will have lots of pictures to share) then out for dinner (YEA I don't have to cook or clean up) and a evening of playing tourist and people watching. We did this last year and had so much fun decided to do it again this year.

I'd like to take this time to wish everyone that celebrates a Very Merry Christmas and may all your Christmas dreams come true. I hope the stash fairy is as good to you as he was to me.

Almost Christmas

I'm just sitting here at the computer stitching, listening to Christmas music and enjoying all my Christmas decorations and lights. Even without the little ones close I am really beginning to feel the joy of the season. No Bah-Humbug for me this year!

My ILCS yahoo group has again had a Holiday card exchange, my favorite of the year. I have received so many wonderful card, some with little gifts of floss or ornaments, even a frog or two. Today's mail brought this very special card from Gail A. (sorry the pic is a bit blurry). The Snowman is a wooden ornament and so cute. It will have a special place on my lil seasonal tree in January.

As you can see I have received many card and love each and every one of them. I use to put them on the door but since they tended to fall off this year I did something a little different. I put up a piece of snowman wrapping paper to attach the cards to and it's working great. Now the cards are next to the trees and I can enjoy both together.

I'm still stitching on the Christmas Biscornu but took a little break to do another Snowman ornie.....

Snowmen, Snowmen everywhere

It's been a great week here so far. I've had some good stitching time, a day out with Nancy and lots of cards in the mail.

I finally finished the "Snowman Trio" and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. They were really cute when I finished stitching them but when I added the buttons it just took them over the top. I wanted to finish them as a "No Sew" cube but think they are just a little big for that so will try to do a flat fold with them and have them ready for the seasonal shelf next month.

"Christmas Biscornu" by Just Nan

I have been trying to help Rae from my ILCS group learn to stitch on Linen/Evenweave fabric. She is such a quick learner and a very talented stitcher. Since she wanted to do a Biscornu and we both had this chart we decided to do it as a SAL so I could help her over any bumps in the road and to learn a couple of speciality stitches. Since taking this picture I do have another tree at the top done and have started down the right side. I'll have another update on this project real soon.

I'll leave you with another picture of Maddie. Doesn't she look like the perfect Christmas gift under the tree? The sweet little girl really has us all fooled.....Manda said as soon as she snapped the picture Maddie turned around and started chewing on the packages. The joys of a teething child, everything goes in the mouth.

Goals Achieved

I set 3 goals for myself to achieve this week and I am happy to announce I made it. Yep all three goals acheived.

Goal 1.....

I finished "Naughty" for myself to go with "Nice" I did for Tracy. I really love these Mill Hill kits and plan on doing lots more of them in the coming year.

Goal 2....

"Sugar Plum Fairy" Stocking

Yes "Sugar" and her friends are finally finished (even lined the stocking) and now ready to take her trip to Arkansas. This really was a joy and challange to do. I now have another year to do stockings for the boys and know I will enjoy doing theirs just as much.

Goal 3.....

My third goal was to finally get the tree up and some decorating done. With the help of Tracy our tiny apartment is begining to look a lot like Christmas. I love getting out all my stitched ornies and putting them on the tree. As I take each one out of the box I remember who stitched it for me in a exchange or what I was doing with the ones I stitched. In another year I should have enough to have the tree totally done in just stitched ornies. I don't know if you can see all the "No Sew" cubes under the tree but they will be our packages until we shop for gifts at the last minute. We usually do our shopping for each other on the 22nd or 23rd so under the tree would be bare until then.

This little tree is one that Nancy R gave to me when she and her bf moved. It is still a work in progress but will be up all year and decorated to match my Seasonal Shelf.

We can have Christmas here without the froggies hehehe......This is our coffee table and the frogs on it sing and dance.

That is what I did this week and now to stitch some more snowmen so the little tree can be decorated with them in January.

Exchange Received

I have to send a big THANK YOU to Heidi of my ILCS group for sending me this great package. We had a "Sock It To Me Santa" exchange and the idea of the exchange was to get a pair of socks and put some stitching goodies in them.

Heidi sent me this really warm and fuzzy socks (I love the fuzzy socks) and she put the goodies inside. She included a ruler (I always need to use one and can never find mine), a picture frame with a magnet (already have the grands picture in that and it's on my file cabinet next to the computer), a really nice piece of blue fabric (I see more snowmen being stitched on it) and a wonderful kit for a Magnetic Needle Nanny with a Cardinal to be stitched on it (I did one of these as a gift and really wanted to do one for myself, now I can). I was really spoiled with this exchange.

I got the "Snowmen Gathering" chart on my last visit to the LNS and thought I could do the snowmen from it separately as ornaments and I think it worked out well. The finish was very easy, just fringed the edges and put felt on the back.

Yep, it's almost done and in plenty of time for Santa to fill this year. All that is left to do now that "Sugar" has her head is put the back on, line and do the cupcake with Maddie's name on it. This will be finally done sometime this week and off to Arkansas it will go.

It's Beginning to look alot like Christmas.....

While we were on the strip for the NASCAR Parade of Champions last Thursday we had a little time to spare and decided to check to see if the Christmas display was up at the Belliago. The Elfs (Belliago workers) were very busy getting it up and the pictures are a preview of what's to come. It's going to be very nice again this year and I can't wait to go back and see it. Of course I'll take LOTS of pictures to share.

Weather.....

It has really turned cold (for here anyway). We have had several mornings with below freezing temps and the highs have been 10-15 degrees below normal. We even got a very nice slow steady rain yesterday. The mountains are now all covered with snow and it is sooooo pretty

Time to fill the coffee cup and get back to stitching so I'll have more ornies for the tree. I hope to get Mill Hill's "naughty" done in the next couple of days and then I have a really cute snowman one to do.

Is It Really December

I really can't believe the year is almost over and we are starting on our 10th year here in Las Vegas. It seems like just yesterday I was driving the moving van across Hoover Dam

We had a very quiet Thanksgiving. Just Tracy and I with the Turkey and all the trimmings. Someday I will learn how to prepare a holiday meal for just two. After dinner we both went to bed VERY early since we had plans to get up VERY VERY early to get one of the camera's on sale at 5am at WalFart (have I told you how much I hate that store). What a disorganized mess! After looking for someone to help us and then waiting in line for 1/2 hour in the electronics dept (isn't that the logical place for a camera?) we were told they were up front and sold out. Tracy still hadn't made it to the register so he got out of line and we left without spending a penny and believe me I was beyond pi$$ed off.

Next on our plans for "Black Friday" was to go to JoAnn's but before we left Tracy suggested I check the ads again to see if I could find another camera that suited my needs. I did find some good deals at Best Buy and since it's in the same center as JoAnn's we decided to check it out. WOO HOO they had just what I wanted and there were even people there to help. Now to find the end of the check-out line. The line twisted and turned all the way around the appliance section and we were told we got there at a good time since the line took 1 1/2 hours earlier, we had to wait a little over 1/2 hour which wasn't bad.

Then off to JoAnn's we went. I found everything on my list very quickly and then we checked out the fabric. They didn't have just what I wanted so I decided it wasn't worth my time to wait in line for something I really didn't want. Now that was a good choice since I heard the waiting time to get fabric cut was 1 1/2 hours. I saw women with carts full of fabric so guess that was the reason for the long wait. Then to my surprise I looked in our basket and what did I see....A OTT LIGHT. I have mentioned that I wanted to try one several times but always said no, they are too expensive. We were there early enough to get the Door Buster price so instead of paying $54.99 it was $19.99.

Between the Door Busters and coupons I got everything I wanted and we saved over $100. Then as a special treat we went to the LNS Stitchers Paradise to pick up a few things for a exchange and to get some of the supplies I need for my first venture in Needlepoint in about 35 years. Nancy R meet us there so I could meet her friend that she lived with in NM. Jeanie is a really lovely lady and I'm so glad we got to meet.

That was it for shopping so we headed home for leftovers and a nap so we could go out later that evening.

Sam's Town, a local casino, has a really lovely park like setting in the lobby area. It is complete with a mountain, waterfall and lots of little critters. They do a really nice fountain show with laser lights. It's all decked out for Christmas now and is sooooooo pretty and peaceful. There is a 80 foot Christmas tree and lots of little displays with polar bears that move. Here are a few pics of the bears, the rest of the pictures were really too dark to see anything (was learning to use the new camera).

I didn't get much stitching done on Thursday and none on Friday but did get a little done over the weekend.

Milly is almost to the point of being finished. Just have to finish the border, snowflakes and her name now. She is back in the WIP basket now so I can get back to Maddie's stocking, poor "Sugar" really needs her head.

I made this little scissor fob for the same exchange I shopped for. You really can't tell from the picture (unless you click on it to make it bigger) but the black beads make a hat and the pearls make the body of a snowman. I think I'll have to make one for myself now.

I did have a new start and finish! I was really itching for a quick finish and wanted to do something small. I had received this chart as a RAK and thought it would be perfect for this years tree and then for the little snowman theme tree in January.

Well that's about it for me for now. I will be stitching all day tomorrow on Maddie's stocking or on ornaments for the boys, just can't make up my mind. Thursday is going to be a fun day out again. NASCAR is having their awards ceremony this year here in Vegas and all the cars that were in the chase will be in a parade down the strip. You know where I'll be, taking pictures and yelling for my favorites. If the crowds aren't too bad we'll probably hit a few of the resorts to check out their Christmas decorations too. I've practiced with the new camera so hope my pictures come out better.

Hi folks, I finally made it home.

I got very lost on my way to find Sherk's swamp where I wanted to visit my cousin "Gingy". On the way home some kids started to chase me and they wanted to eat me so I ran and ran and ran all the way home. If Rene would put those silly snowmen away she could finish me and I could join my sister "Gingerbread Girl" and my friend "Sugar Plum Fairy" on the stocking for that sweet little girl Maddie. I sure hope she gets back to us real soon and "Sugar" can finally find her head. Hope to see you again real soon....Hint, hint Rene.

As you can see the gingerbread man finally turned up LOL. I had knocked my mouse off the desk and when I got down on the floor to retrieve it there he was. I know I looked in the place I found him but I guess I didn't look well enough or didn't have my glasses on. Now to get him to shut up so I can get to my goal on the snowmen.

I just received two "Thank You" gifts in the mail.....

Rae Ann, a new member of my ILCS group, sent me these adorable socks as a Thank You for helping her with her questions about Cross Stitch. I just love them and will save them to wear when we go shopping on Black Friday.

And from Lee M, also of my ILCS group, I received this beautiful ornament as a Thank You for teaching the Hardanger class. She said this was her first ornament of this type and she did a wonderful job on it. I just LOVE it and it's already on my little tree just waiting for us to put up the big tree and it will have a place of honor on it.

Thank You so much Rae Ann and Lee. I really appreciate your thinking of me and your kind words with the gifts and cards.

Grandkids and Stocking

I am such a proud Granny I just had to share this picture of the grandkids with you.

I think this would make a great Christmas card. The only thing missing is the little elf hats LOL.

My very own "Sugar Plum Fairy". When I sent Manda (my DD) the picture of the stocking she dressed Maddie up in her tutu and sent me this picture.

I can't believe I'm so close to being finished with the stocking. After 4 days of stitching all that is left to do is the Fairy's face and hair, her wand and the cupcake with Maddy's name on it. I really shouldn't say all that's left because there are a ton of pieces that go into making her face and hair with flowers in it. I'm taking a short break from it over the weekend and working on the "Snowman Trio".

The weather is finally cooling down here with the highs in the low 70's and getting down to the 40's at night. Last night was the first night I had to put another blanket on the bed. I just love this weather.

"Sugar Plum Fairy" Stocking Update

I was surprised at how quickly I was able to finish the bottom of the stocking (well almost finished). In the second picture (the close up of the bottom) you will notice that the Gingerbread Boy is missing. I had him almost finished and set him down so I could get a cup of coffee, when I got back to my chair he was gone. I have searched and searched for me but so far he hasn't turned up. I think he may have run away to Skrek's swamp to join his cousin Gingie. I think I have enough of scrap felt from the kit to make another one but will wait to see if he turns up.

Snowmen, I just LOVE them

Our 31st Anniversary

Most husband bring their wives flowers, candy, jewlery or something expensive on their Wedding Anniversary. Not mine, no not mine. Along with a really lovely card he got me two more frogs for our 31st Anniversary and I just love them. I can't believe that 31 years ago we were in Reno in the middle of a snow storm getting married. My brother (Tracy's best man) and our friends barly made it to Reno before the roads were closed and had to spend the night. That was the beginning of the best years of my life.

Girls Day Out

What a way to get rid of some stress, spend the day with a good friend chatting, shopping, eating and stitching. Nancy R and I meet for another day out on Wednesday and boy did we have a good time. We meet at Stitchers Paradise and all the stitching chairs were taken so we did a little shopping (we both were good girls and didn't spend, spend, spend) then decided we would go to lunch and then come back for stitching time. After a yummy lunch at a new dinner neither of us had tried we went by her new apartment to feed the cat and so I could see the new place. Back we went to the LNS to get some stitching time in and this time there was room for us. I worked on "Snowman Trio - Willy" and he is coming along nicely. I only have a few more rows of his body left to do then on to the white in his hat, his arms and the border. With any luck he should be finished by Friday. I did get the buttons called for and they are so cute and will really add the finishing touch to the project.

While we were looking around Nancy spotted some really beautiful ornaments that look like old fashioned Christmas Lights. They are done in Needlepoint with some really great speciality threads and the best part the charts are free. So now we will be venturing into the world of needlepoint, something I said I would never do again, guess I need to learn to never say never LOL.

A Finish and WIP's Update

I'm still not feeling up to par and will probably have to make an appointment to see the doctor soon. Even with feeling like crap (sorry about the language) I have done some stitching.

I had originally planned putting my grandchildren's names on these but when I charted them out they just wouldn't fit and look right so that plan was scrapped. Then I thought I'd do 3 Flat folds with them and then decided I didn't want to do that either. Now I'm going to stitch all 3 on one piece of fabric and either do 1 large flat fold or a large no sew cube with them. I really believe I have become obsessed with this project since I can't put it away and work on anything else. I have more done on "Willy" since this scan and he is a real cutie but you'll have to take my word for it until I scan him again.

"Naughty" by Mill Hill

I also started "Naughty" for myself to go with "Nice" that I did for Tracy. It's almost 1/2 finished and I should get back to it real soon (If the snowmen will shut up and let me work on something else).

I should have one more day of quiet stitching then the week gets busy. Wednesday I'm meeting with Nancy at Stitcher's Paradise for a afternoon of stitching with the ladies there. I will be a good girl and leave my wallet at home except for the few $'s I need for lunch and to get the buttons for the "Snowman Trio". Thursday is our 31st Wedding Anniversary, boy time flies when you are having fun with your best friend. Not sure what we will do to celebrate and a lot depends on how I feel that day. Friday is going to be a long day out, Tracy has two doctors check-up's. One in the morning and one in the afternoon so we'll have to find something to do between the two appointments since it's really not time to come home between them. May just have to do some window shopping or find a nice quiet place where I can sit and stitch and he can read the paper.

I'll probably be kinda quiet the rest of the week. I've just started hosting a new exchange on my ILCS group and have become overwhelmed with the response so my attention will be on keeping that straight and stitching.

RAK'd Again

I'm not sure what I have done to be so lucky as to be RAK'd twice in two days. Emily from NC, a member of my ILCS group, sent me this WONDERFUL package.

Emily must know how much I love stitching Halloween and she included.....
Black Mill Hill beads, Orange overdyed floss by Needle Necessities, numerous charts from her calendar, "Icky & Spooky's Friends" by Mosey 'n Me, A kit to stitch a band and make a watch and another watch face and band so I will be able to make two new watches.. Tracy was watching me pull everything out of the envelope and we were both in shock and ohing and aweing together. I have many many wonderful stitching hours ahead of me and will have some great new decorations for next Halloween.

I'm SO Spoiled

I've been having problems with my back again and spent most of the last week in bed. It was so bad last week that we had to skip the movie on "date night" and just went out for a light supper, coffee and some time playing the penny slots. To my amazement I even won for a change and Tracy won enough to pay for our evening out. Now on to be spoiled.....Tracy felt sorry for me and he came home with more snowmen for my collection. Aren't they the cutest things.

Soft and cuddly Snowman, Snowman Pail (will be great for holding chocolates), Frosty ornaments, 2 pairs of toe socks and PEZ dispenser with lots of Pez candies. Isn't he the sweetest DH in the world!

With my back hurting and having to spend so much time in bed I really haven't got much stitching done but as my back improves I'll make up for it.

Snowman Trio "Chilly"

Poor "Chilly" had a visit from the frogs. I had his scarf stitched then found that it was one thread off. I really thought about just leaving it but just couldn't do it so out came the "stitch picker" and I took out the offending stitches. It won't take long to restitch that area.

"Pansy Sampler" SAL

I finished Band 10 (the little purple flower buds) and have started on the Kloster Blocks. Something about the stitching white on white really go to my eyes so I had to put it away until I've had some good sleep and then I can finish the blocks and start the cutting and needle weaving. I'm going to finish it as a needleroll so will have to get ribbon and lining fabric to match the colors.

I thought the eyes could use a rest so out came the "Naughty" ornament. Since it's done on 14 count perforated paper and I enlarged the chart to "Granny" size it really doesn't put any strain on the eyes.

Computer Finally Fixed

It's amazing what you can get done when you can't get online BUT I sure felt like a duck out of water. It turns out that the power supply decided it was tired and had to be replaced. We were very lucky that a very nice young man came to our home and did the work and didn't charge a arm and a leg. Now I'm back online and have lots of email to read and blogs to look at. I was busy stitching while off line and thought I'd share what I did with you.

Let's start with my October Seasonal Shelf. This years shelf is a little different from last years. Lots more stitching projects this year and I really do like this one better.

This is one of the 18 designs that came in the kit. I wanted to jazz it up some and give it a little sparkle so instead of stitching the garland and the red ornaments I used beads from my stash. I am so happy with the way it came out I'll probably be changing more of the ornaments to make them more me.

NEW WIPS.....

"Panda's" by Heart Strings

I received this chart as a RAK a couple of years ago and when I pulled it out I thought the fabric was perfect for them. I got the fabric as part of my FOM from Silkweavers. I loved the color but had no idea what I would stitch on it....now I know why I didn't put it away, it was meant for the Panda's. This will be for my DD who we called "Manda Panda" when she was little (and sometimes I still call her that). I want to find a Bamboo looking frame for it. I got bored with the backstitching but will finish it real soon. There needs to be white backstitching on the black part of the Panda on the left and won't take long to do.

"Chilly"

I fell in love with this design when I saw it stitched by Kathy in my ILCS group. I wasn't sure what fabric I wanted to use so it has sat in my to do pile for a while. I was looking for some fabric in my stash box for another project and this piece jumped up and said "stitch a snowman on me". I did a floss toss with the threads called for and thought they looked great on it so I was off and running. I'm using the DMC conversion since I didn't want to have to wait for a trip to the LNS to get the WDW's and I am very happy with the colors. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do each snowman separately or do them as on piece but tonight I decided I'll do each on their own and either make them into flatfolds or no sew cubes. The one change I'm going to make is to change the names to my grandkids names.

Well that's what I was up to while missing everyone.

Happy Lil Bag Lady

It's hard to believe that six months have passed already. This is Maddie playing with her Uncle Chad and I think they are really having fun. Chad spent last weekend in the hospital with a really bad staph infection in his ear that had to be drained and then he was on IV antibiotics for 3 days as well as some major pain meds. He's doing fine now. Manda said Maddie kept looking at the sofa, pointing and making a noise like she was saying "Where is Uncle Chad".

WOO HOO....I did it.....I finished Lizzie Kate's "BOO Club" double Flip Its. I started this project in late April and finished stitching tonight. I must say it was really fun and I will miss working on it. As soon as I find the perfect hanger I'm going to make it into a bell pull. I have some really cute black Halloween fabric that I will use to back it.

Weird Week

This was a strange week of stitching for me. I actually concentrated on one project this week. Normally I will switch to a different WIP every day or after two days. I can't believe I haven't done anything on the LK BOO Club since the update on Aug 28 but major progress was made this week and it will be finished by probably Tuesday.

On Saturday I was lucky enough to meet another member of my ILCS group. Kathy from OC in Calif was in town and we meet at Stitcher's Paradise for a little shopping (I was very good this time) and then went for a cuppa and a chat. She gave me a really cute little froggie button that I think I'll sew on my favorite tote bag that Mary A made for me. We had a very nice visit and hope to meet again when she returns to Vegas in the Spring.

Really nothing else to talk about so guess I'll put away the stitching, turn off the lights and visit my pillow.

Summer Finally Over?

It feels like Summer may finally be over and Autumn has arrived here in the desert. Along with the cooler temps we have had wind but that's the price we have to pay to cool off. The days have been in the low to mid 80's and the nights in the high 60's to low 70's. Makes for great stitching weather and I have done some since my trip to the LNS.

I managed to get 4 more bands done on the "Pansy Sampler" SAL. I can't wait to get the Hardanger part at the end and should be able to get the last couple of bands done this next weekend then the fun begins.

To celebrate the finish I thought I'd do another small and decided to try one of the ornaments I got on sale at JoAnn's last week. I knew there would be no problem with the perforated plastic but was concerned about the quality of the threads since in some kits it more like string than floss. I was very surprised that the threads were very good (may even be DMC) and this was a joy to stitch. The colors in the picture are kinda faded out, she is much brighter than this.

Nancy and I meet as planned yesterday for some stitching and shopping at the LNS "Stitcher's Paradise". I found some must haves and this one just jumped into my hands and since it was the last one on the rack I just had to bring it home so it wouldn't get lonely there all by it's self.

If only I had been good and not gotten anything else it would have been OK but oh no I couldn't stop there. I also got a small cut of blue fabric for a ornament from the new JCS Ornament Issue, 2 Mill Hill kits (Naughty for me and Nice for Tracy) and another Halloween Needleroll kit from Shepherds Bush. Nancy spent a lot of the time there doing a wish list and looking, looking, looking. We both did get some stitching done. I started another ornament for Tracy. The ladies were so friendly and welcoming I think we are going to try to go back next week (I'm leaving my wallet home LOL).

Going to try to get the ornament for Tracy done (or close to it) today, then work on Maddie's stocking and the Pansy Sampler Then I can start on "Bats". The weather has cooled down a lot..the high yesterday was only 80 degrees but along with the cooler temps also came the wind but it was so nice I can deal with the wind.

Weekend Stitching

After the lack of focus on stitching at the end of the week I think I made up for it this weekend.

"Witches" is getting really close to being finished. A few more pumpkins, some ground and the bottom border are all that is left to do. I'm working on it today and with any luck will be finished tonight or tomorrow. I really still love this piece as well as the one I did last year and hope they design another like it.

In my ILCS Hardanger Class we are doing this as a SAL.....

I'm stitching it on 32 count White Belfast Linen with the recommended silks and DMC Perle Cotton. I do have a mistake in the first two bands and will have to do some frogging but it won't be too bad. I'm going to finish this as a needle roll.

I HAVE A FINISH....

This is one of the kits I got at JoAnn's on sale. This is the actual size of the finished piece. Stitched on 18 count Aida and mounted in a cute little card. I'm sending this out in our ILCS Ornament Exchange and hope who ever gets it likes it as much as I do. Can't wait to do the others I got but being a good girl (for today at least) and will finish "Witches" first.

That's what I did this weekend while watching Football, NASCAR and NHRA races (Yes I am a racing junkie).

Fun Friday

Last week was kinda weird for me. After finishing the two little projects I just couldn't focus on any stitching. I wanted to do a ornament for the ILCS exchange and started 3 different ones, didn't like any of them so just threw up my hands and said I need a day out. Nancy was also having a stressful week and we decided a day of shopping and playing tourist was just the ticket we needed.

I printed off the JoAnn's coupons for both of us and we started our day there were we both found some good buys. Tracy found the aisle with the Christmas stitching kits, all on sale (told you he is a really good or maybe it's bad, enabler. This is what I got......

I have wanted the Dimensions "JOY" kit since I saw Nancy M and Tracy W stitch it. The best part was it was marked 1/2 off and I got another 40% off that. I will change the fabric out since I really don't like the 14 count Aida. The little kits are really cute (I have one finished already) and will make fun quick stitches for the tree.

We then decided we would have lunch before heading for the strip. We went to "Sweet Tomatoes" Salad and Soup and it was really yummmmy. We will sure go back there again.

After resting our feet and filling our tummies we headed for the strip. Since moving here Nancy really hasn't had a chance to see any of the sights so we played tour guide.

By this time it was getting late so we headed back to the car (after a short stop to drop some pennies in a slot where Nancy won and we lost). It really was a great day and we plan on doing it again real soon. We do plan to meet again this week for a stitching day at the LNS. The ladies there are so nice and friendly we decided to take them up on the invitation to join them.

I'll have a stitching update sometime tomorrow with a couple of WIP's and a little finish.

Another Little Finish

I have another little finish to share with you but first I want to answer some of the questions people had about the ornament in the clay saucer.

Carissa asked "....pretty please give us an idea of how you kept the ornie in the saucer...is it glued?" Yes it is glued with Aleene's Tacky Glue.

Meari asked "How big are the clay saucers you're using? Do they make the ornament heavy?" For this project I used a 3" saucer but any size could be used. I am going to look for a smaller one at Michael's since 3" was the smallest JoAnn's had. It is heaver than a normal ornament but shouldn't be too heavy for a Christmas ornament if the branch on the tree is sturdy.

Vicki L said "I love the halloween ornament with the plant saucers. What a wonderful idea. Can you pass the instructions on please?" I will be making more ornaments this way real soon and when I do the next one I'll take step by step pictures and share with anyone who would like to make one or maybe I should just post the instruction here on my blog.

Now on to my latest little finish. I mentioned I had a idea in my head for a project using the clay pot. I am very pleased it did come out almost just as I had it pictured.....

changed fabric from Aida to 28 count white Monaco

The stitching on top opens up so I can use the pot to hold all those wonderful stitching gadgets I can't live without (needles, needle threader, Thread Heaven ect, ect). To make the top I just mounted the finished stitching to a piece of cardboard (used 3 layers of batting to give it the puff and so I can use it as a pin cushion). I then backed it with a circle of green felt and also put a small circle of felt in the bottom to cover the hole. I use a piece of ribbon glued to the inside of the pot and between the felt and cardboard to anchor the top to the pot. I also used another piece of ribbon looped and glued between the felt and cardboard to use to open the top. Finished it off with ribbon and a bow around the top of the pot. You could also put a trim around the stitched piece but with this one I thought the ribbon was enough and didn't want to add any more to it.

This was a start and finish this weekend. When Nancy and I were shopping at JoAnn's she mentioned using the saucers for the clay pots to make ornaments. I really liked the idea and this is what I came up with. This is only the first of many I want to do this way. They would also make great pin cushions. I have a idea in my head for using the clay pots also, if they come out as planned it will be another really fun, cute finish.

I have been a good girl (sort of) and got more done on both "Witches" and the "Stocking". I should have "Witches" done in plenty of time for this Halloween.

When I get tired of working on the stocking all I have to do is look at the pictures of this sweetie and I'm inspired all over again. She really does have to have a special stocking for Santa to fill. Here is where I am now with the stocking.

"Sugar Plum Fairy" Stocking

The Candy Canes on the tree were a real PITA and I'm so glad they are finished. This week I'll work on the bottom of the stocking before starting on the Fairy. At this rate I should be done in plenty of time for Christmas. I still haven't figured out how I'm going to line it since there are no instructions for doing that but I think it will hold up better over the years if it has some kind of lining.

I Was a Bad Girl

I told myself I wasn't going to start anything new until more progress was made on Maddie's stocking and the 2 Halloween projects but I couldn't help myself when I got the JCS Halloween Issue. This just called to me to stitch it (and I'm sure you aren't surprised) .....

I did make a couple of changes in the colors. I used a verigated purple and orange in the border and didn't add the backstitching to it. I also used the same orange varigated in the pumpkin. I finished it as a little pillow (only 2x2 inches) and it now hangs by my desk.

What a Monday!

I woke up this morning with a terrible headache and it just wouldn't go away. I took some Ibuprofen and went back to bed in hopes I could just sleep it away. When I awoke again my head still hurt but not as bad. Time to go get the mail....and boy I'm glad I did! My box was filled with wonderful packages. First was my order from Karen. The Accessory Pack for "Pansy Sampler", more "sassy strings" thread in Fall colors and the JCS Halloween Issue. I can't wait to use the threads on some of the Halloween designs. Next was the ornament from Wanda J for the ILCS ornament exchange, and it is sooooo cute. Last and what really made my day was a RAK from Trecie. As a Thank You for teaching the Hardanger class she made me this wonderful tin and even did some Hardanger on it. Inside she put some cedar shaving from a tree in her yard (they smell soooooooooo good) and nestled in with the shaving were 3 adorable froggie magnets she stitched. She did such a great job on this and it will always have a special place on my desk.

NEW START....

I spent most of the week working on the stocking for Maddie. I haven't done this type of stitching in many, many years and forgot how detailed these stocking are. Lots of cutting of little pieces, sequins and beads to be attached to the stocking. Now that the cuff is done I've started on the tree and again there are lots of little pieces to cut, sequin, bead and attach to it. I hope to finish the tree part this week but we'll see. I do think it will be done in time for Santa's visit this year.

"When Witches Go Riding"

I am really happy with the progress on "Witches". Again once I pick this one up it's almost impossible to put it down. Still have a lot to do on the bottom with the witch, another tree and all the pumpkins on the ground but it should be done by Halloween and if I'm lucky enough to find the perfect frame on the wall too.

I have a busy week of stitching and finishing planned for this week so I'd better get back at it now while watching Monday Night Football.

New Type of Project

Many, many, many years ago in a galaxy far away I made the Felt type stocking for my kids and they still use them (they are a little tattered now). I was talking with my daughter and she said the boys needed new stockings and of course Maddie will need one too. I hadn't made stockings for the boys yet and asked her what she wanted for the kids. She said she knew I mostly did cross stitch now but she really wanted stocking like I had made for her and Chad. Someday I'll learn to say NO but haven't yet so here is the first of the 3 stocking I'll be doing.

"Sugar Plum Fairy"

I was looking online and found this stocking and thought how perfect for a little girl. So this will be Maddie's stocking and with any luck Santa will fill it this year. I found the kit at JoAnn's online and was able to use my 40% off coupon which made it very affordable even with the shipping charge. I also found stockings for the boys, Jedi's will be a Nutcracker one (he loves them and I started a collections of them for him) and Gibby's will be Santa making cookies (he's like his Granny and loves sweets). I probably won't get the ones for the boys done this year but will get them done after the first of the year.

So now I have lots of felt pieces to cut, beads and sequins to attach and hand sewing to do....wish me luck on getting this done this year.

Vacation and Halloween Stitching

It was nice to have Tracy home on vacation all week but it did cut into my stitching time hehehe. We did have a good time on Friday when we meet with Nancy to go shopping at the great sale at JoAnn's. I really did bust my stash budget but who can pass up on a sale to stock up on needed things for not only stitching but finishing too. Since I had coupons for Michael's too we had to make a stop there. I was a good girl and really didn't spend much there. Then off we went for a Frappicino at Starbuck's. While we were sitting outside enjoying our drinks and chatting the wind blew in a short Thunderstorm. We were protected from the rain and just sat there and enjoyed the drop in temp and the smell of the rain. It was really nice to spend time with Nancy again and we have plans to get together again real soon so I can show her some of the sights of Vegas and do some stitching together.

Like I thought I really didn't get a lot of stitching done, or at least not as much as usual. I did get a couple more lines done on "Witches". It just gets better and better with each section and is almost 1/2 finished now.

I have started the third one (twice, got off on the first one and tossed it). It's a Spider all done in black with red eyes. I'll have a finish on it maybe tonight.

What a weekend for watching TV......hours of my favorite TV watching, RACING. Not only was there 2 NASCAR races but also drag racing. Also spent hours watching the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. I have missed a telethon in years and since it's here in Vegas again I'd really love to see it in person, maybe next year.

Time to get back to stitching and then get dinner started. For those of you who were interested in the Stovetop smoker all I can say is "GET ONE and you won't be sorry". I've used it so much that it is really looking like I've had it for years. Tonight I'm doing a whole chicken again and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We have done just about any meat you can think of and haven't had anything yet that wasn't wonderful.

An Evening Out

Tracy and I had planned on a trip to the strip sometime during the week while he is on vacation. Well last night after a early dinner we decided that since it had cooled off some we would go see a couple of the free shows that had changed since we moved here.

First was the Pirate Show at TI (formally Treasure Island).
Sorry the picture is sooooooo dark but this is the Pirate Ship for the "Sirens". I really don't like the way they changed this show 8o( It was much better the way it was with the Pirates fighting the Brits. Now it's a bunch of "Sirens" against the Pirates and a little risque for the kids that come to watch. The humor is a little off color, guess I must be becoming a prude in my old age.

Inside the front door at TI this motorcycle sits. It was designed and built as a tribute to the "Sirens". To say it is awesome would be a understatement. You don't have to be a lover of motorcycles to appreciate the details that went into this. You could spend a hour just looking at all the details.

Next we moved down the strip to see the new Volcano at the Mirage. They totally redid the volcano and added more FIRE. Now this wasn't as disappointing.

Again sorry about the picture being so dark but you get the idea of the Volcano erupting with steam and fire coming out the top and running down the sides. There is water surrounding the mountain and it has fire coming out the the water too. This is all done with the sounds of birds and drums in the background. It was as good or better than what they did before the changes.

OK, OK everyone said they wanted to see the new hair do from the front. You won't see many pictures of me (I hate having my picture taken) but here I am at the Volcano.

By this time it was getting late so instead of staying out any later we headed for home and decided to go to the little local casino for breakfast (I was hungry again). We decided to put a few pennies in the slots and lucky Tracy walked out ahead by $60 (I only lost $5).

Well that was our evening out and now today is laundry day with some stitching time between loads. Not sure what the rest of the week will bring but I'm sure we'll go out again.

The Big Cut

Now that my hair is 20 inches shorter I feel like my head is a ton lighter and some cancer patient will have a wig of all that hair. I know now that I'll have to do the blow dry and curling iron thing but it feels so much better.

Weekend Stitching and Finishes

It turned out to be a good weekend for stitching, finishing and designing. It was just too hot to step outside so lots of time spent with a needle in my hand.

First I designed a "Little" ornament for my Hardanger class with some new stitches for them to learn. I have started stitching the model and as soon as it's finished I'll share it with you. I would have finished it but I just can't put "Witches" down. I don't know what it is about this project but it's drawn me in and I can't stop working on it.

"Pansy Sampler Ornament"

This is the free design from Victoria Sampler that goes with the "Pansy Sampler" we are doing as a SAL in my Hardanger Class. I really finished it last week but forgot to put it in my last post. I think I want to do this one again in Christmas colors.

The next two projects I have had in my finished bin for a long time and just hadn't done anything with them.

"Snow People" Bell Pull

I remember stitching this from a magazine BUT I don't remember when or which magazine. I do know it was done at least 3 or 4 years ago. About time I did something with it.

"Santa" No Sew Cube

All I can remember about doing this one is it was a kit like the Snowman Cube I did. Again this has to be 3 or 4 years old since I got the kit for it at WalFart before they discontinued carrying stitching supplies.

I still have one more project to finish this week for Halloween but need to get Tracy to cut the cardboard for it.

Tracy's vacation has officially started and we are going to go out to dinner tonight to celebrate his birthday and that's the extent of our plans. We hope to meet with Nancy R and her beau on Sunday for a concert on Fremont St and will probably also spend some time on the strip seeing the free attractions there and do some people watching. The weather is predicted to cool off and be below the 100 degree mark finally so should be a good time to get out before all the tourist arrive for the holiday weekend.

Finishing Frenzy

This week started off really strange for me stitching wise. I pulled out "Scream House" to do some more backstitching but just couldn't get into it. Then I thought about doing another section on "BOO Club" but that didn't tickle my fancy either. What to do, what to do? Start a new project was the answer. Last year I stitched "Pumpkin Patch" by The Prairie Schooler and then got the companion chart "When Witches Go Riding". That was the answer I was seeking....A new project! As you can see in the top corner of the chart below there are 4 little designs, they really make cute small projects but more on that later.

This is the start of "When Witches Go Riding". Not a lot done yet but it's a start. I just love this fabric by Silkweaver's. It's called "Dark Tan" and is what I used last year on "Pumpkin Patch". I wasn't sure there was enough left to do the new project and it's a bit skimpy on the sides but since the finish probably won't be matted it should work out fine.

This was a start and a finish while working on "When Witches" and I just love the way she turned out. A really fun, quick stitch and my new favorite way to finish small designs.

As I titled this entry I went into a Finishing Frenzy after a trip to WalFart for some seasonal fabrics. The stitching got put down, the pins and glue came out and this is what I did.....

"Snowman" No Sew Cube

I just had to use this fun fabric for the "Snowman". You really can't see it but the fabric has snowmen and the words Merry Christmas with some sparkles. I then added the Pearl pins to give it some bling and they kinda look like snowballs.

"Give" Ornament by Stoney Creek

I used a 4" finishing form to put this one together. It still looked kinda plain to me so I decided that the Red/White metallic cording would add some sparkle and dress it up a bit. You really can't see the sparkle in the fabric and cord but it really shines in the light and should sparkle on the tree this year.

And last but my favorite......

"Hardanger Christmas Tree"

This is the design I created for my Hardanger Class and what started the frenzy. I knew I wanted the Red/Green plaid fabric and was so happy when I found it I just had to get this done NOW. I found the Red/White/Green metallic cording in my ribbon stash and I think it really sets off the colors in the stitching and fabric.

Well that is what I did this week and I have 3 more projects sitting here with their fabric for finishing. By the end of the weekend I'll have more finishes to share with you and maybe even more done on the current WIP.

Tomorrow is Tracy's birthday and the start of his vacation. Not sure how much stitching I'll get done with him home and awake all day hehehe. He works nights and sleeps days so I normally have all the time I want to stitch but who knows what will happen with him awake. We aren't going anywhere on vacation, staying home with maybe a trip out to the strip to play tourist and then out for a birthday dinner. There is a free concert on Fremont St next Sunday that we will plan on attending to end the vacation.

Weekend Stitching

While the promised rain didn't show up where we are the valley did get some showers downtown and on the West side. I guess we'll have to move across town if we want to see any weather. While I was very disappointed not to have the rain I did get some good stitching time in.

LK's BOO Club is no officially half finished. 6 of the 12 designs done and 6 more to go. I think they are getting cuter as they go and can't wait to see it all finished. Saturday I did "creepy" and love the little Owl in the tree.

When I received this piece of fabric with my FOM I really didn't like it, in fact I thought it was UGLY! Then I got the Carrie's Threads in "Autumn Leaves" and the chart and when I was looking for a fabric in my stash this piece looked perfect. I am VERY happy with the outcome and it will be a great addition to my Halloween decor this year.

Today will be some brain dead stitching. I'm going to try to finish up all the backstitching on "Scream House" and then will have to pull out the volume of instructions to see what comes next. Not sure what my next Halloween start will be but with a finish I do get to start something new. I know I'll probably get 1 or 2 more designs done on BOO Club this week but not sure what else I'll pull out of the WIP basket.

Halloween Stitching

This week I decided to work on some Halloween project and maybe even have them done in time for haunting this year. I picked out 3 projects....one old, one recent and one new.

First came "Scream House" by Just Nan and you can see it here ......http://family.webshots.com/album/567277118cghhmv I started this almost a year ago and still have lots to do to finish it. This week I did the outline backstitching on the walls and roof on the interior. Next I will do the same with the exterior walls and roof then start adding all the fun little details before assembling it. With some luck it may be done for Halloween (just not sure what year LOL)

Next I did another band on the LK BOO Club. This is one I have been looking forward to doing since I first saw the design....bet you can guess why.

I also got a lot done on the border. I think the next chart will be really fun too but will take a little longer since it has more stitching and detail to it.

Now for the new start. I belong to Silkweaver's FOM and each month they offer a free chart of your choice with the purchase of the FOM fabric. This month I decided it would be fun to have another Halloween Needleroll and picked "BOO!" as my pattern of choice.

This is now half done and I think it will be finished by the middle of next week. Of course I didn't have the fabric or threads called for so I took a leap and decided to do my own thing. The fabric is a solo I got some time ago and really didn't like until this project. The only thing I knew for sure was I wanted to use Carrie's Creations "Autumn Leaves" (top band) and the fabric just jumped out of my stash and said USE ME. I really like the way it's working out and so far it's been a fun stitch.

Well that's it for this weeks stitching. After a very HOT week it's going to cool down this weekend with thunderstorms in the forecast. If the rain does come I'll open the door and windows to smell the fresh air and hopefully get some relief from the heat.
